When you want a program on one computer to talk to a program on another, a sensible solution is to use asynchronous messaging. Sprinkle is a broker which implements a simple messaging protocol called STOMP.

Sprinkle is written in Python and runs on Unix type platforms. You can download it in source code form and give it a try. I think it works pretty well, although it's not yet hardened for an industrial environment. Check back often, because I expect to update the code every month or so.

The latest version has improved support for user subscriptions and includes the presentation I'm hoping to give at an upcoming Python Conference.
